Dev Garden helps you save and search development knowledge you choose to keep in your personal account. We collect only the information necessary to provide the service, and we never sell your data.

Information We Collect

  • Account information: email address (used to authenticate your extensions and sign in).
  • User content you choose to save: page title, URL, selected text, code snippets, and any notes you enter.
  • Metadata: tags, collections, timestamps, and optional AI‑generated summaries to organize your content.
  • Usage (minimal): basic, non‑personal events required to operate features (e.g., save success/failure). We do not track general browsing history.

How We Collect Data

  • Web app: when you create an account, add or organize items, or use features in your dashboard.
  • Chrome extension: when you click “Save to Dev Garden”, use “Quick Save”, or explicitly enable auto‑capture on supported developer sites (e.g., Stack Overflow, GitHub, ChatGPT). The extension reads the current tab’s title, URL, and content only when you choose to save or enable auto‑capture.
  • VS Code extension: when you run commands to search, add notes, or save selected code.

How We Use Data

  • Provide and improve Dev Garden features (saving, organizing, searching your items).
  • Generate optional AI summaries/tags to help you organize content.
  • Maintain security and prevent abuse (authentication, fraud prevention).

Data Sharing

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We share data only with service providers acting as processors to operate Dev Garden (e.g., cloud hosting, databases, error reporting, and optional AI processing vendors such as OpenAI). Processors are bound by confidentiality and data‑processing terms and may not use your data for their own purposes.

AI Processing

If enabled, we send the minimum necessary content to AI providers (e.g., to generate summaries or tags) and store only the results in your account. You can choose not to use AI features.

Storage & Security

  • Data is transmitted over HTTPS.
  • We use industry‑standard security controls and restrict access to authorized personnel.
  • You control your data: you can add, edit, and delete items from your dashboard at any time.

Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You may delete items or your account at any time to remove data from our systems, subject to backup and legal retention requirements.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at contact@dev-garden.io and we’ll respond within a reasonable timeframe.

Children’s Privacy

Dev Garden is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Browser Extension Permissions

  • activeTab, tabs: used to read the current page’s title/URL and open dashboard/onboarding when you choose to save.
  • contextMenus: adds “Save to Dev Garden” to the right‑click menu for user‑initiated saves.
  • storage: stores your Dev Garden URL and API key (email) locally on your device.
  • notifications: shows success or error notifications after save actions.
  • host permissions: limited to developer sites and dev-garden.io to enable saves and securely send content to your account.

International Transfers

We may process data on servers located in other countries. We take steps to protect your data in accordance with this policy and applicable law.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. We will post updates here with a new effective date.
